lineage: An individual descended from a common progenitor.

locus: A location in the DNA that reside at specific places on chromosomes.

mitochondrial analysis: To develop DNA profiles from evidence that is not suitable for RFLP or STR analysis, which analyzes DNA found in the part of cell known as the mitochondrion.

National DNA Database: A national database of DNA samples against which the law enforcement agencies can match suspect DNA.
